Despite the absence of veterans in Shakib al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim, the hosts are raising their performance bar with every passing game. Their opening pair has done tremendously well in the last two encounters for them. Both Liton Das and Imrul Kayes have scored centuries.
Imrul Kayes earned man of the match award for his match-winning knock of 144. While their middle order failed miserably in the first ODI, Mohammad Saifuddin boosted their total to 271 which eventually proved too much to handle for the visitors. With Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, and Mahmudullah available in their middle order, their batting is neither short on experience nor on talent.
Bangladesh looks pretty settled in terms of their batting. Mehidy Hasan picked up three important wickets for 46 runs. Mustafizur made 29 runs and picked up a wicket. Nazmul Islam returned with the impressive figures of 2 for 38.
Overall, Bangladesh was brilliant in the first match, they will certainly be a tough team to beat.
Zimbabwe faced the same issued which were apparent in their series against South Africa and Pakistan. We’ve seen a slight improvement from their batting unit which was the reason for their loss.
Sean Williams has been the only player to score consistently for them. He struck a half-century in the previous match. Their next best contribution came from Kyle Jarvis who scored 37. Brendan Taylor, Peter Moor, and Sikandar Raza failed to impress yet again as Zimbabwe were, at one time, reduced to 169 for 8 before Jarvis, Mavuta, and Williams bailed them out.
Bowling-wise, they are doing fine, but they’d have to improve their fielding. At times, they are exceptional in the field, but also making basic errors in the field. The same was the case in the previous match when Imrul Kayes was dropped at the boundary rope. Kyle Jarvis returned with 4 for 37 and he was ably supported by other bowlers in the middle overs.
BANGLADESH VS ZIMBABWE TOSS PREDICTION
The surface didn’t really change much and dew factor never came into the picture. Therefore, we might see the team winning the toss electing to bat first.
PITCH AND CONDITIONS
The weather at Chittagong is expected to be pleasant with negligible chances of rain. However, the surface is likely to be a little slower as compared to the first ODI. The powerplays will be the best time for the batsmen and any total in excess of 270 will be difficult to chase.
The return of Brendan Taylor, Sikandar Raza, and Sean Williams ignited hope among the fans, but the poor performance of Zimbabwe in previous matches has disappointed their fans. Bangladesh is improving with every passing match and will be difficult to beat. Considering the recent form and team on paper, the hosts are clear favorites to win the upcoming encounter and seal the series.
